Solo Swims of Ontario Inc. monitors the safety of swims across the Great Lakes, primarily Lake Ontario.  SSO is the oldest Marathon Swimming governing body in North America, having been founded in 1975 as a result of a coroner's inquest into a drowning of an unprepared young man trying to swim across Lake Ontario.
